Are louvred pergolas worth the investment?

Welcome to the first post on the new GMC blog. We’re here to tell you everything you need to know about creating your dream outdoor space.

We’re kicking off with the service most people come to us for: our fantastic louvred pergolas with opening roofs, like the one below. You’ll find more examples in our gallery.

Outdoor roof with louvres (slats) that are open and show blue sky behind. The roof is attached to a house on the left and a garden wall on the right. The patio space has a deck green foliage and a pendent light descending from the roof.

It’s not surprising these pergolas are so popular – they’re just about the perfect outdoor structure for Sydney’s temperate climate.

But let’s get down to brass tacks. If you invest in a louvred pergola, how can you be sure of the benefits? Will it be worth the time and money you put in?

The simple answer is a resounding yes!

Benefit 1: Making the most of the weather

Our pergola roofs have adjustable louvres – or slats – that you can open or close to suit your needs. These mean you can use the space in comfort, no matter the weather.

If it’s a fine day, you can open the louvres to let natural sunlight into both your patio space and your home, or angle them to create a shady oasis. If it’s raining, just close the louvres to keep your space dry. You’ll never need to dash inside during a sudden downpour again.

Benefit 2: Controlling temperature and airflow

Climate control can be pretty important in Sydney. In the height of summer, the last thing you want to be is at the mercy of the heat and humidity under a fixed roof.

Adjustable louvres let you control the light and airflow, and keep your pergola at a comfortable temperature throughout the day.

Benefit 3: Providing long-term enjoyment

We only use high-quality materials, such as aluminium, Colorbond and PVC, that suit your location. Whether you’re close to the sea or in the heart of the suburbs, we’ll advise you on the best options for your property.

Our materials are incredibly durable and designed to withstand varying weather conditions. With only a small amount of maintenance on your part, you’ll be enjoying your pergola for years to come.

Benefit 4: Increasing your property’s value

Last, but far from least, we have to mention the value a louvred pergola adds to your home. Making your outdoor space more liveable can translate to a financial windfall when the time comes to sell.

The reality is that a louvred pergola will cost you more – initially – than a more traditional style. That’s because of the advanced features that offer unparalleled versatility and durability. But we’d urge you to remember it’s a short-term outlay for long-term gain.

Here’s what one of our clients said about investing in a louvred roof:

I am an aggressive researcher and, given the investment we were about to make, we fully canvassed the market in terms of products available and companies to use … We are delighted with the finished product. We love the look and functionality … and the louvres really provide the ‘wow factor’. We couldn’t be happier with our investment.

Think you might be ready to add some “wow factor” to your home?
